Rotterdam Square hosts well-attended breakfast event about trends in digital health

This morning, May 28, Rotterdam Square hosted a breakfast event about the implementation of trends in digital health, as a Side Event of the Upstream Festival at CIC Rotterdam. We would like to thank everyone for joining us, and a special thanks to our guest speakers Martijn van der Laan from Erasmus MC and the Digizorg app, Jolijn de Haan from UX research and design company Online Department, and Christiaan Uythoven from digital learning platform Primio, for sharing your insights in innovating in digital health in an interactive way.

A trend in digital health is optimizing care paths – not only for patients, but also for caregivers who need efficient ways to learn and grow at a time where they are under a lot of pressure. Digizorg is a great example how a patient experienced a care path and saw opportunities to make it more efficient, which led to this app that integrates all healthcare services in the Rotterdam region, making it easier for patients to manage their care and stay connected with their healthcare providers. A tool that is used to optimize these care paths is Metro Mapping, a service design method that maps out the complexity of a medical care path in a visual way, as discussed by Jolijn. An app like Digizorg shows the benefits when this tool is applied in practice.

As founder of a digital learning platform, Christiaan shared his story about growing a startup in this industry. Primio originated from a design agency and successfully transformed to SaaS (Software as a Service), and is a learning and workplace support app for caregivers with the goal to support and inspire them in their professional growth. Some key takeaways he shared with the audience: ‘your ideal user is not the paying customer’, ‘focus is key’, and ‘an internal ambassador is the key to success’.

We hope the missions, journeys and specific tools of our guest speakers have inspired the audience and anyone interested in innovating in digital health.
