Technology Push vs. Clinical Needs: exploring the future of MedTech

On Thursday, September 10th, we welcomed the Life Sciences & Health community to Erasmus MC for our Knowledge Session on MedTech, organized in collaboration with Panton.

It was an interactive afternoon, bringing together perspectives from healthcare, research, industry, and investment to explore how technological innovation can better respond to real clinical needs.

The panel consisted of Guus Hak from Neollie, Jan Carel Diehl Diehl from Delft University of Technology and Erasmus MC, Koen van Breugel from Coronet Ventures, and John Vlot from Erasmus MC.

Willem Mees van der Bijl from Panton, designers for healthcare, led the discussion and brought these perspectives together.

The discussion highlighted the importance of connecting technology developers with healthcare professionals and understanding what it takes for an innovation to move from a promising idea to something that can actually be used in clinical practice.

Two key takeaways from the discussion:
● Collaboration is key to developing the right innovations. Bringing companies and healthcare professionals together early helps ensure that new technologies address what is actually needed on the clinical work floor.

● Innovation needs to create value for both patients and hospitals. Improving patient outcomes is essential, but hospitals also need to see clear value for an innovation to be adopted in practice.
