New lab robot helps expand the automated analysis workflow

Erasmus MC has welcomed a new ‘colleague’: an innovative robot that connects an analysis device to the automated analysis line of the Diagnostic Core Laboratory. “This robot application is new in the Netherlands.”

It can remove racks containing blood or urine tubes from the laboratory line, transport them, place the tubes onto any analysis device and press ‘start’ on a screen to begin the analysis. The newest colleague of the Core Laboratory is a robot: a compact mobile unit with a movable robotic arm that travels between the automated analysis line of the Core Laboratory and analytical equipment that is difficult to integrate into a fully automated laboratory workflow.

According to clinical chemist and medical coordinator Christian Ramakers, the use of this robot is highly innovative. “This robot application is new in the Netherlands, especially in combination with an automated laboratory solution like ours.”
