The Erasmus MC Robotics Center is open
Robots handing out ice creams and announcing speakers attracted attention this week during the opening of the Erasmus MC Robotics Center. But behind this lies a serious ambition: to use innovative technology more effectively to reduce the workload of healthcare providers and to keep healthcare accessible, affordable and of high quality. Lead Steven Petit: ‘People stay in control, robots contribute.’
The demand for care is growing due to an aging population and increasingly complex care. At the same time, the availability of healthcare professionals is under pressure. To meet these challenges, innovative solutions are needed. For example, in the form of robotics.
With the new Robotics Center, Erasmus MC and FRAIM, set up by TU Delft, combine their expertise to understand and use the possibilities of robotics in daily healthcare practice. According to member of the Executive Board Dirk Schraven, Erasmus MC is good at innovating, but less good at implementing innovations on a large scale. ‘The Robotics Centre will make an important contribution to this. And we can’t do that alone. We need the business community to make technology applicable in practice.’
