Apply now for the Venture Challenge Spring 2027

As of October 20, 2026, applications are open for the Spring 2027 edition of the Venture Challenge. The programme supports first-time entrepreneurs in the Life Sciences sector in developing scientific innovations into viable business cases. A maximum of six teams will be selected to participate in this ten-week programme, guided by experienced entrepreneurs, industry experts and business coaches.

Goal and background

Many promising scientific discoveries never reach the market because researchers may lack the business experience and guidance needed to turn their research into a viable venture. The Venture Challenge helps bridge this gap by supporting participants in developing a solid business case, assessing their customer value proposition, identifying key risks and assumptions, and creating a strategy to validate and further develop their innovation.

Life Science start-ups in the making

The Venture Challenge is designed for first-time entrepreneurs in the Life Sciences sector. The programme focuses on pharmaceutical products, medical devices, diagnostics and enabling technologies. It also welcomes participants who want to establish a spin-out from an existing company.

Teams must consist of at least three people. Through two three-day bootcamps and coaching sessions, participants work with experienced trainers, industry experts and fellow entrepreneurs to develop their business case, build a venture plan and prepare to pitch their innovation. The programme also provides opportunities to connect with relevant early-stage Life Sciences investors and experienced entrepreneurs.

Spring round 2027

The Spring 2027 edition will select a maximum of six teams. The programme takes approximately ten weeks and combines two bootcamps with coaching sessions. At the end of the programme, participants pitch their venture plans to a jury of experienced entrepreneurs and investors. The winning team will receive €25,000 in prize money, with the winner announced at a major Life Sciences business conference.

Application and deadlines

Applications for the Spring 2027 edition open on October 20, 2026, and close on December 10, 2026. Applications are submitted through the NWO website. Following an initial screening, shortlisted candidates will be invited for an intake interview, after which a maximum of six teams will be selected.

Participation costs €2,000 per team of three. Participants are expected to attend both three-day bootcamps, including overnight stays, as well as the final pitch event and winner announcement.
