Meet the Network: Thomas Mitchell, CEO & Co-founder The Organoid Company

The Life Sciences & Health ecosystem within the Rotterdam region is a dynamic network of companies, service providers, educational institutes, healthcare providers, and more, working together to innovate in healthcare. In this series, we would like you to get to know this network. This time, we would like to introduce you to Thomas Mitchell, CEO and Co-founder of The Organoid Company

Could you please introduce yourself first?

My name is Thomas Mitchell, and I’m the CEO of The Organoid Company, based in Rotterdam. I have a deep background in molecular biology, pharmaceutical development, and laboratory automation, with particular expertise in DNA repair mechanisms, senescence biology, and advanced cell culture systems. I also lead Valley Biosciences in developing novel therapeutic compounds targeting age-related diseases.

What does The Organoid Company do?

The Organoid Company develops and provides advanced 3D organoid culture systems, miniature, lab-grown tissue models that better recapitulate human biology than traditional cell cultures. Our team focuses on developing cost effective complex organoid models to support drug screening, safety profiling, and disease modelling, enabling partners to generate more predictive preclinical data. We see organoids as a foundational technology platform, much like a development engine that others can build applications on top of. Our goal is to lower the barrier of drug development for everyone.

What are you currently looking for within the Life Sciences & Health network?

We’re looking to connect with academic, pharmaceutical, and biotech partners interested in leveraging organoid-based assays for preclinical drug development and broader scientific discovery.
