Meet the Network: Marco Cevat, Mediventic
The Life Sciences & Health ecosystem within the Rotterdam region is a dynamic network of companies, service providers, educational institutes, healthcare providers, and more, working together to innovate in healthcare. As Rotterdam Square, we would like you to get to know this network. This time we introduce to you Marco Cevat, CEO and co-founder of Mediventic.
Could you first introduce yourself?
Marco Cevat ended up in healthtech after he himself was severely struck by health issues that ended a 30-year career in information technology. Because nobody could really identify the causes of these issues, and after misdiagnosis, poisoning from wrong medication and silly referrals, he decided to research them himself, with Mediventic as a result. During his career, he developed, led, and managed all aspects of software engineering, start-ups, (digital) transformation and technology for over 30 years, of which some 20 in leading positions, 10 in management consulting and 20 in international organizations, with some 6 years living abroad. He started a few specialized consultancies, of which he exited one successfully and took a lot of lessons from the other. Before that – in the punch card days – he was a system software engineer and studied Economics & Business Management parttime at VU.
What does your company do?
Mediventic helps patients prevent episodes of breathing problems from hyperventilation and certain types of asthma. The same solution helps medics to untangle unrecognizable, often intermittent, complex symptoms with faster and better diagnostics, and better pinpoint the underlying causes. This vastly reduces the number of misdiagnoses. The solution has taken shape as a wearable set of sensors that measures most of the vital physiological signs of a person in sync, 24/7, during multiple days and under motion. It thus serves as a mobile, pocket-size intensive care unit.
Mediventic has gained great interest and support from Amsterdam UMC and Erasmus MC. Also, two NGOs are involved with further development of the pocket-size intensive care unit for application in underprivileged countries and low-resource areas.
What do you look for within the Life Sciences & Health network?
Being located on the border of Erasmus MC Campus, we have already established some great relations with people in Erasmus MC and with suppliers in the Rotterdam Square network. We would like to share our experience and work with other startups in the cardiovascular and respiratory field. Also, we like to help other startups by sharing our experience as managers and entrepreneurs. Our most urgent need is to find people who can actively support us get through the pre-seed stages, with funds and contacts.
