Meet our new Team Member: Amy Nijman
Rotterdam Square is a team of six dedicated women, working together to build the innovative Life Sciences & Health ecosystem within the Rotterdam region. Today, we are excited to introduce you to our newest team member: Meet Amy Nijman, our Marketing & Communications Manager.
Could you first introduce yourself?
My name is Amy Nijman, and since the start of 2026, I have been working as Marketing & Communications Manager at Rotterdam Square.
In my role, I oversee Rotterdam Square’s marketing and communication efforts, from our website, social media, and newsletters to broader storytelling and positioning. My focus is on strengthening the Rotterdam Square’s position and promoting the Life Sciences & Health ecosystem in the Rotterdam region and at the Erasmus MC Campus.
What is your background?
My professional journey began with an MBO degree in Marketing, Communication, and Events, followed by a bachelor’s in International Business and Languages. Curious about different cultures and perspectives, I gained international experience during my studies through an internship at the international marketing department of a global fashion brand in Stockholm and a semester studying in Frankfurt.
After graduating, I began my career in marketing and communication in the sports and healthcare sectors before moving into academia. During the COVID period, I supported an institute for healthcare education for nursing assistants and nurses, seeing firsthand the crucial role of the healthcare sector and the importance of supporting both healthcare professionals and patients.
I later joined an international institute for water education, where I further developed my communication and project coordination skills and contributed to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives within a highly international academic community representing over 60 cultural backgrounds. I am excited to bring these experiences and insights to my role at Rotterdam Square!
What motivates you in your current role at Rotterdam Square?
What motivates me most is using my skills in a field that truly makes a difference. Healthcare has always been close to my heart, and working in the Life Sciences & Health sector felt like a natural next step.
I thrive in roles that positively impact society and people’s well-being. I believe communication is essential for accelerating innovation, fostering collaboration, and turning ideas into real-world solutions. Seeing the impact of health and technology innovations inspires me to contribute to meaningful progress in the Life Sciences & Health sector.
