And not without reason: it can give crucial insights and accelerate valorisation. There is a good reason why involving patients is often becoming a requirement in funding requests and guideline developments.
But does required co-creation reach its goal, or does ‘ticking this box’ stand in the way of getting better results?
Some innovations are very technical and patients are far removed from that, like developments in medical devices or the good use of algorithms. In this case, is a patients input relevant? Or does it ask too much time and energy of already overworked doctors? Doesn’t it slow down innovation processes and isn’t too much being asked from the patients?
